Hydroponic Media Types

With any hydroponic system, and/or any type of growing media, the goal is still the same. you just need the roots to be moist, not soggy and saturated. if the growing media is saturated and soggy, the roots will suffocate from lack of oxygen.. The hallmark of hydroponic gardening is a soil-less growing medium... no soil! but plants need to be supported or held up somehow, right? we do this with soil-less media... inert, non-organic materials.. Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture, which is a method of growing plants without soil by using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. terrestrial plants may be grown with only their roots exposed to the mineral solution, or the roots may be supported by an inert medium, such as perlite or gravel.. the nutrients used in hydroponic systems can come from an array of different sources.

Hydroponic planting media is a material or non-soil planting medium that is used as a place to grow and develop plant roots. lets know about hydrophonic planting media & its requirements.. Types of hydroponics systems there are two main variations for each medium, sub-irrigation and top irrigation . for all techniques, most hydroponic reservoirs are now built of plastic, but other materials have been used including concrete, glass, metal, vegetable solids, and wood.. Hydroton is one of the most widely used types of hydroponic growing media out there. you’ve probably seen it in pictures of hydroponic systems (disregarding the fact that it’s our feature image). hydroton is also commonly referred to as expanded clay pebbles or leca, which stands for light expanded clay aggregate..
